November 5 and 12

Please make sure to visit the library or follow the links on the blog entry from last week to complete the very simple assignment for last week: using hyperlinks if possible, find a book and an article by utilizing the search engines listed on the assignment and available on the library's web page.

Next week, November 5, Dr. Holtz will conduct our class, so please make sure to read the short story and the opening chapter of Black Elk Speaks; this chapter contains material that you will encounter again at the John Neihardt Center.

On November 12, we will go on a field trip to this center, leaving the college at approximately 8:15 in the morning and returning at around 6:00 that evening.

Please listen to the following video in which I discuss the projects you will all engage in over the next weeks: begin now to plan, for your individual groups of three or four will make presentations in class the final weeks of the term, which draws quickly to an end.

If you have questions, see me.

Quiz Three Review

Assignment for November 18

Assignments for November 18 for College 101:

Your assignment
this week requires that you use the Peru State College library's on-line databases and the catalogue for the three state colleges.

Following the guidelines from the handout, experiment with the EBSCO files.

Each of you must find and post on the Discussion Thread for this week a book and article title: a book from the catalogue and an article from the EBSCO search engines. The titles can have anything to do with what we have discussed, from U-2 launches to Andrea Hairston's works.

You do not have to go to the library, for you can do the searches with your computers.

If you have not turned in a paper, get to work on this simple project, a requirement
for the class.

On the Discussion Thread, share the results of your research. In addition, Pan Morigan (pan@panmorigan.com ) and Andrea Hairston (ahairsto@msn.com) would love to hear from you.

So write both or one and share with everyone on the discussion board what you ask of Pan and/or Andrea and what message you receive in response.

Enjoy a good, good week. Bill

Weeks Eight and Nine

You have, as the course announcement notes, a quiz (Quiz Three) to take this next week--the quiz covers the final chapters of the book.

You have an opportunity, moreover, to make up or to retake the first two quizzes--the final opportunity.

And Friday, you will find a thirty-minute video that covers the quiz and discusses a bit the essay over
White Sands, Red Menace. As mentioned in class, you can approach this class requirement from a multitude of perspectives with respect to Social Sciences and Literature: use your imagination.

And so respond to the Discussion Thread those who have missed on or two (or more) threads: you can post four times and make up two threads. So please take advantage of this offer.

Enjoy your days off. I will be in Wisconsin until Tuesday, but you can e-mail me if you want to retake a quiz or if you have a question.

Look for the video beginning Friday afternoon.
